I have cultivated elderberry plants that bloomed well this spring. Two weeks ago they were covered with small green berries. Now most of the berries are gone. The stalks are about empty in spite of the plants leaves being in good condition. It had been dry lately so until yesterday I though the plants were letting go of fruit it couldn't ripen. Per the title I finally noticed a couple of small red brown birds picking the green berries. I've always had birds go after the ripe berries, but these are hard and bright green. Has this happened to anyone else?
