1. First , thank you for any advice - it is much appreciated! First question: My husband is redoing the small staircase in our entry and we are not sure about the nosing placement for the close up photo. He thinks that it should wrap around the post but I'm wondering if it should not do that and we could wrap the post in a thicker base so that it matches the width of the nosing. The nosing is stained dark.

Second question: We would like to do panelling on the walls there but are unsure whether to do it with chair rail molding or a thicker one. Also, if it should be on the wall where the railing will be?
