What's the name of the hosta? Is it one of those where the spanking brand new growth looks green then the variegation appears in a few weeks? Just watch it and if it stays green then you have your answer. Solid green rules over variegated. More vigorous. Geez. do rabbits prefer blonds? (hahaha)

No, unfortunately, I seem to remember it starting with the golden variegated color. I don't think I have a name for it, sorry. It was not the only hosta the rabbits liked, believe me. It would be easier to list what they didn't like! The only Hosta that they barely touched was 'June', which has a thicker waxier leaf. We just ordered a product designed to keep rabbits away, we're going to try it this weekend. I wish I knew about it earlier in the season and I hope it works.

Hi pm. Nasty rabbits. I am wondering if it is something like Fortunei Albopicta that starts with variegated leaves and greens up in summer. I think I can see a darker edge on the top leaf and the middle leaf that is cut in half. Glad you got something to protect them.

P-all - I went back and found a photo of it before the rabbit got at it...and it actually looks a lot greener and less yellow than the remainder yellow leaves in the damaged hosta photo...this was early spring when the daffodil foliage was still up, so I guess it lightens over time with more sun, as Ademink points out too. And it's so much lighter than the hosta next to it, that I guess I was reading it as yellow. It's in a bed at the back lot line and I'm usually looking at it from a distance.

The product I'm going to try for the rabbits is called Plantskydd - which is actually dried blood meal. Someone else on GW told me it was a game changer for her. We've never seen so many rabbits as this year. I gave up on the vegetable garden and the Lilies were a bust this year, too.

Let us know how that product works for you. I agree with the others, the lighter color is coming. It could be Gold Standard but I'm not the expert on that variety, DJ?

extremely long odds on reverting ... if that were usual.. then everyone who ever had a horrific hail storm would have a garden full of green hosta ...

most of what you are seeing.. is the difference between emerging in the weak sun of spring.. compared to the higher intensity now ... even in shade ...

Thanks, Steve. I will definitely be back to let you know if the product is working. The rabbits seem to be doing less noticeable damage right now. They've already eaten a lot of my lilies and have slowed up on eating the Hostas. There are people in the neighborhood that have vegetable gardens, so maybe they are there driving them crazy. I wanted to try it this year to make sure I could depend on it for next year, so. I'm going to lay some down around the areas they have already done damage. My front bed, they are still feasting on Dill seedlings too.

As for the variety, I do keep records, but I've been slacking off recently. And I didn't buy this from a retail nursery, I bought it at a local plant sale, so I have no receipt with the listing of what I bought. It might have had a tag, but it's long gone. [g]

I have one GS identified by the Hosta People on the web. It receives a lot of sun in the afternoon. I also have one identified again by forum members that is mostly in shade. Here’s some Pics:

So I think yours is looking just as it should. The leaves are green, like in spring. They may not yellow up again this year. It certainly looks like it could be GS.

Oh boy, clearing out one of our raised veggie beds and discovered a new rabbit home with baby bunnies in it. *sigh*. Went to fill the birdbath that is on top of two flat rocks and under the saucer, there were two moles staying cool. My DH said we seem to be the hot spot, where everyone wants to be. I thought, we need to charge more rent. [g]
