I don’t know how that trend of uneven cabinet tops got started, but my hypothesis is that someone’s contractor made a mistake and talked his way out of it by claiming it was a new trend.

As usual, @mama goose_gw zn6OH is correct, the space would be better without those two tiny cabinets, but keep in mind that the next cabinets in have no finished end panels. You might have to pull the end panels off of the little cabinets and Frankenstein them onto the adjacent ones.

Great move. Those nibblets needed to GO. But I would not paint those cabinets unless you’re gonna hire a pro with a booth to do it right. I’d get a counter depth fridge to further open the room, and put down a big area rug in shades of gray, silver, and blue — something that picks up your gorgeous wall paint. It’s a nice kitchen!

Additional advise needed... I’m adding new white marble tops with new satin brass hardware. I’m thinking of going with cottage white on the top cabinets and dark navy blue on the bottom cabinets. Any suggestions on how it would look??

Good decision on removing the smaller cabinets. I love the combination of white marble tops and brass hardware. If you decide adding an island, you can use brass-legged barstools to give off a trendy and progressive feel.

There's no space for an island--the only feel that would give would be trendy and crowded.

Jesus, I would use the white paint on all cabinets, then pull in navy blue in accessories and a rug, as MizLizzie suggested.
