Agree that we need to know which side is the "long side".

Also, what does the closet need to do? Does is serve one or two people? Must it hold shoes as well as clothes? Do you expect drawers in the closet, or do you have other drawer storage in the bedroom?

Thank you both! The closet is non existent right now, we are building it into the room. It will serve two people, my husband and I. I have more stuff than him and ideally we would want to store our shoes in there are well. We are going to get a small vanity to have in the bedroom, but I want to try and maximize the closet space as much as possible! Attaching a rough sketch of the room, you can see the orientation of the closet!

The current layout is such that the bathroom extends into the what would be new closet space. So we're breaking up the current bathroom to have a separate bathroom and closet space. Adjacent is another bedroom!

I think live_wire_oak is suggesting that you make your bathroom one foot smaller and your closet one foot larger so that your closet is 7 x 8 which would give you room for hanging on both sides of the closets. Shoes can be on racks above a built-in set of drawers or on shallow shelves at the end. If you search on Houzz.com for 7 x 8 closet layouts, you'll get a ton of ideas, most of which will have to be adjusted to your dimensions, but you will see ways to store various types of clothing. Then you can come up with your custom layout based on your needs.

Thank you both for your responses and your time! Right now making the bathroom a foot smaller isn't an option, so I'm looking for insight on how to make a 6x8 closet work. Ideally, if anyone has any photos from a closet in a similar size that would be super helpful!

When we built our new home, the closet was one of those budget compromises we had to make and each of our closets ended up being 7ft wide x 5ft deep - not quite a walk in.... I wanted to be organized and went to Ikea and bought closet organizers - so happy with the result - configurations are almost unlimited and the cost was a fraction of other closet organizer companies. Here’s a couple of photos of mine (double narrow - 20” each - doors swing out vs. into the closets):

Thanks for the comments - mirrored doors are just regular 2-panel doors and we had the mirror guys glue mirrors into the panels.
