I'd paint it black. It sort of needs to disappear as it doesn't go at all with the secretary. Or maybe paint it the color of the walls. Can you rearrange to not have them side by side?

Sorry but those 2 pieces do not belong in the same space and certainly not SXS . Maybe post a pic of the whole space but IMO painting that secretary would be a shame . I would move that piece somewhere else and just get a simple sit down desk to work with the other piece
