I think it the blue could work, but I personally love the armoire as is. I think your space could do well with a little more warmth of the wood. Bring the color in by using art, pillows, rugs etc...

Leave the armoire the natural finish and paint the coffee table a bluish color. I personally don’t like more than one painted piece in a room.

I like it as is also and would compliment it by changing the coffee table if you can, so you have more wood tones

Thinking that the color you are considering is more suited to a bedroom and with the couch and kitchen, think a darker color could be better suited. I recently chalk painted a piece using a deep blue and love it, as it’s warm and striking

Then pull the color with cushions.

I’m another who wouldn’t paint it; the stain color and wood grains are so pretty. I’m curious if there was a mirror in the middle at one time.

I would possibly change the hardware, though.

I have a similar old armoire that is very beautiful, that once held a radio. If I could pull of a deep brilliant blue like the one posted above, I would to it in a heartbeat. Brilliant colors move me. I have lots of solid cherry furniture, maple, mahogany, teak, etc, but I would be delighted to have an accent piece like the OP is describing.

Go for it! I think a pale blue would be great, IMHO I would avoid blues with yellow pigments. Like someone mentioned above, I would also consider repainting the coffee table. Also, I think the curve of the armoire might compete with the round wall decor above the sofa. I would not be opposed to a charcoal gray either, but that's not what the OP is looking for either....

I wouldn’t paint either! Though, maybe bring in 1-2 other pieces in that wood tone to complement. In the kitchen it could be cutting boards. In the LR, maybe a final drink table or coasters or a lamp or a wooden box on coffee table or bookcase.

I’m usually fine with painting old furniture but not this time! I love the way this looks and how it adds warmth and personality to your space. It’s a standout!

The combination of your modern pieces and that beautiful wood piece is stunning. Why paint it?? OMG, no. I think the idea of placing it in another spot might be worth exploring?? But once you paint this piece you destroy is intrinsic value. What you could do, is if you move it to a spot where the doors could be opened and you could line inside walls with blues of your choice or cover inserts with wallpaper of your choice and display items inside that could be quite lovely.

Look at how antiques are incorporated in these rooms.

Thank you again to everyone who responded. My decision is finally made. I'm using a combination of most of your suggestions. I'm not going to paint the outside. I'd like to paint the inside though and leave the doors open as well as add two more accent pieces that are a similar color to the amoire. I would like to paint the inside a charcoal color. Anyone think that's a bad idea or have another suggestion for color inside?

Agree -- would not paint it.

Likely would not paint it inside either but I suppose that depends upon the condition of the inside and your intended use of it. Pictures of the inside?

How are you intending to use this cabinet?

Have you considered removable peel/stick wallpaper for the inside or at least the back rather than painting it?

Or, better yet, especially if the space is a wide open hanging space or any shelves are removable: see if you could you add a MIRROR to the inside of the back held in place with the kind of hardware that holds a full length mirror to the back of a door?

Paint the inside a lighter, happier color! One of those pretty blues you have samples of. It will be a nice surprise and won’t look like a black hole. You could use some color in here.

To try out inner paint ideas, you can cut out poster board the size on the inner back and paint it. You could even do this and leave it and not damage your piece. I think a deep blue (BM Hale Navy) or a light blue or blue/green (BM Smoke) would look nice

It looks to me like leaving the big door open would be awkward...seems like it would be more useful as storage than display...also how the inside of the door looks may pose another problem...

Don’t use peel and stick. It leaves sticky mess. Don’t paint inside. You can fit covered foam boards into backs in fabric or wallpaper even peel and stick and use a product to secure if needed. If you cut foam boards carefully they will stay with pressure. Good luck. Start small and test out this idea before any painting. I could see this as a bar cabinet for entertaining fun. Could be incredible and real conversation piece when entertaining.

One example. Funny, I went looking for an example and up this popped. I have an identical French Armoire in our master bedroom. We have flat screen TV in it with family photos and my little treasures and paintings. I love it.

Instead of painting the inside, consider impactful accessorizing instead. I don’t think it’s the appropriate piece for wallpapering, painting or leaving the door open. Let it be what it is so It can be appreciated

It also feels a bit lost where it‘s located. I’d remove the floor lamp, as it’s akward there and move the armoire down. On other side, add art and a chair, etc so it feels better balanced and interesting. Ideas below but of course incorporate items that suit your style
