Need rug ideas!

I made a post sometime last year looking for help decorating my living room. I've made a few major changes and now I need help with the finishing touches.
Loking for a new rug to tie my furniture pieces together, also looking for one for my dining room.
my living room is way more put together than the dining area so I'm looking to start there first. I'll post a picture in the comments of what I'm working with

thanks for the quick reply. I just know my husband will object to the color on these😂😂. it took him a while to get used to the one we have already.

this is a cute idea but I think its a little too bright myself. i was looking to use accents to add color and not really the rug itself

Maybe a rug with some yellow tones but not so much yellow?

using tellow never even crossed my mind but I'm looking at a few options online right now that aren't so stark

    or maybe this?

I like your more subtle, but still visually interesting, choices! Here are a few more subdued ones:

    Ooh... what about this one:

I like the Skyler rug in your third pic.

    So...more like that:

(can you tell that I can’t sleep? hahah)

haha! girl, yes! these are too cute! The last one is highhh on my list!

ok so my entire dilemma lies in the fact that I'm looking to buy two rugs. One for the living room and the other for the dining room. how do I tie the two together? we have tan leather dining chairs. They leather isn't this orange in real life, more like a buttery brown.

now that I have an idea where I could go with the living room rug, I worry that something of a similar tone won't work in the dining room.

also ignore the mess, hubby works from home and he turned our small dining into his work space

😂😂 stay up with me and help fix my life! I need to get these rugs asap!

and yes the Skyler rug is super cute

Oh, good to know what it needs to coordinate with! Hmm...the buttery brown almost seems to be in the gold family, maybe? So maybe blue and gold in one room would also work in the other?

That’s a great dining table and I love the chairs.

Hahaha - this is the kind of life fixing I love because it’s so fun!

Can you take a pic of the dining chair next to the sofa in natural light so I can see if they are in the same range? If one is a warm color and the other is cool, it is more challenging, but if they are both cool tones, there should be lots of options.

I'm at work and I'm 100% sure my husband won't wake up to take a photo for me at 1am lol.. lemme look for stock photos and do a side by side

Ooh- those are great together! Totally doable. The chairs are neutral so any color will work as long as they are the same tone. I think pulling the teal into the dining area would work really well, and a little bit of yellow or muted gold will be great, if you like that idea.

the pic of the chair is pretty accurate. it always shows up yellow on photos, idk why. I sent my sister a pic when I purchased and when she finally saw it, she commented that it looked different.

the dining chairs are the reason my husband was looking to go for an off white living room rug.

I want some color though, as long as it meshes with the general

I've screenshotted so many rugs in the last few days! I wish there was some kind of app to superimpose stuff on pics so I could have a better idea on whether the colors work😭

There are a few people on here who know how to do that. I’m not sure if it’s a phone app or something else, but it can be done. Maybe one of them will weigh in!

I hope so too. thanks so much Ellen! you're the

Couple questions.... is it possible to send pictures that show how the 2 spaces look as a whole?
What do you have on the walls? If you go with a rug with a lot of pattern, you might need to consider
toning down artwork and other accessories like pillows so that they complement each other not compete.
I see a high chair :). Keep in mind that any spills are going to show up with more “white” and could be hard to keep clean. Also want to keep that in mind with price if it’s a rug that may need be a “forever” rug.
I’m ok with the rug size now as it fits all your furniture and grounds the space. Not opposed to a bigger rug but this also goes hand in hand with how big the combined space is. Two rugs too close together will make the space look smaller and feel too closed in.
Do you have to have a rug in the dining room? See my comment above for dirt :).
I often times don’t put a rug in an open floor plan dining room/living room under the table, especially if the floors are nice. Makes the space feel bigger and more practical for eating.

    thanks for the replies ladies!

sorry this is coming in so late, im a healthcare worker and im always at work.

I'm not attached to any specific thing in the pictures posted except the sofa and loveseat and maybe the coffee table.

    anything else can go.

The dining area is adjacent to the living area and it feels very bare and cold and I think a rug will liven things up.

im at work now and I'll send pic of the wide area as soon as I get

in the mean time, these are a few ideas I was looking at. I know this format isn't ideal but

please let me know what you think

    I LOVE this one:

I'm actually pretty partial to it too!! my husband has shot down pretty much every rug I've shown him and I have these new ones for when I see him.. i noticed that a lot of these rugs look super pretty in pics but look terrible in the rendering photos and he automatically hates them🤷🏾‍♀️

this particular one is from target and I just might pick it up tomorrow if its instore just to see if it could

It’s very modern and the colors look perfect! I hope he likes it!

Yeah, maybe seeing it in person in the room will help.

just my luck, I just checked targe and this specific color is sold out.

I like that last one you just posted, too!

here's the layout.. i hope these pics are clear. like I said the dining feels very bare and its always messy since my husband uses it as a home office. hoping to find two rugs that go well together for both rooms.

please ignore the big box in between. we are making a return to article furniture tomorrow

    This is super helpful!

I like the idea of coordinating the rugs between the rooms. Did you find one you want to try in the living room?

I recommend hanging your art lower, since it’s on the high side.

    hey ellen😊

I still haven't decided on a rug lollll. all I know is it has to be easier with a color palette other than what we have already. As you can see, the art kind of matches our rug but im hoping to change that soon.

when my husband was putting up the art our couch didn't have legs and I overestimated and kept telling him to put the nails higher. I refused to admit they were too high when the couch legs arrived and I didn't want to eat my words😂😂

but yes you are so right😭😭 the art is way too

I think I've settled on this rug in a 4' 6" and I want to layer underneath with a jute rug, maybe 8'10, underneath. The second rug is for the dining room. I think they look very similar, at least on the phone

what do you think ladies? too much? too little? too dull? let me know!

would it be weird to use a rectangular rug under the round dining table?

They definitely look like they go together!

I don’t think it’s weird to use a rectangular rug under a round table. The proportions just have to work.

Did you find anything that you both like yet?

    no.. i actually gave up😭😭

Oh, darn! Keep us posted if you want help again!

my husband kept shooting down the rugs with teal/turquoise. i got very overwhelmed and quit searching.
I planned to stop looking for a few days and then start right back up. maybe this would give me a whole new perspective

You could do something in neutral tones and simpler patterns for the rugs and bring more color and texture in with throw pillows, art, etc.

thats the direction I'm looking into rn! we have a very rambunctious 2 yr old so despite liking the look of shag rugs, I know we would have to look for something medium pile. I'm looking at ivories and Grey's. Moroccan type prints. I like the look of aztec and tribal prints as well.

I juat now ordered this from bougique rugs

it looks different in every photo though but it had glowing reviews. I hope it works out

just an update for anyone who cares lol. I purchased a rug that I think really ties the place together. here's where we're at. sorry, my son got in the way, and for anyone who's interested I'll put up better pics from different angles later.
