Seriously, this isn't even close to what I think of when I see the word "basement." This is sophisticated and bright and open and ... well, pretty much all of the good things that the old-school basements never used to be! Well done with your project. I'd imagine you're going to thoroughly enjoy this space!

What mess? I don't see any! But I agree - basement just doesn't work. My parents called our finished lower level a rumpus room - which always made my kids laugh. You did a great job and I really like how the lighting highlights the tile above the cabinets.

Thanks! June, the flooring is Cortec Blacksrone Oak LVP. We used the same upstairs too. In a snowy climate with large dogs it works well for us.

Why are you lying to us? That is not a basement. Mine, with a beheaded christmas tree, luggage piled, and two dorm rooms worth of stuff stacked high (or low really, given the ceilings). Now *that* is a basement.

It's funny to me how walk-out basements are called that in most places, but here in California, it's just another level of the house. I guess because a lot of our houses are built on the sides of hills. True basements are uncommon here.

Fabulous, seamless extension of one of my favorite homes ever. I would expect nothing less though! I agree a better name than basement is needed. Walkout level, garden level..... even lower level.

Looks great!! I love the floor and can’t wait to replace our lower level carpet with something like that. Here in MN we call it the walkout or lower level when there are one or more walls with full windows and a door to the outside. A basement is a complete subterranean level with a few tiny windows up at ceiling level. Nearly everyone here has a basement/lower level and walkout homes and lots go for a premium as long as you don’t have a moisture problem down there.

Grapefruit, here’s a link to the rest of the ‘House’ which is actually a multigenerational duplex. A few more pics of the basement, nothing really completely finished yet though. One bath still needs vanity lights and the rest of the shower glass and the other has the wrong light. I’m waiting for inspiration or a sudden need to furnish the smaller bedroom.

Thanks for linking your previous posts. I had forgotten that this was part of your new duplex build. Some of the links wouldn't open but the "Six years Later" one did which helped me recall the details. It's a really great concept and I'm so happy that it's all working out so beautifully.

The Blackstone Oak looks beautiful! We are considering it too. The sample board we have makes it look more lighter gray though and not with the darker colors. How is it holding up in general and also to dog nails and heavy objects?

Dog nails not an issue at all and I haven’t noticed any dings/dents from furniture legs (but the one thing that hasn’t been moved is the very, very, heavy dining table and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a dent there), There is one small gouge from something heavy being dropped that would have gouged anything and one small <1” diameter bubble in the kitchen that is barely noticable. This is all after almost 5 years upstairs and nothing yet in the walkout. The pattern is rustic enough that most blemishes would blend in anyway. It really still looks brand new. It cleans beautifully and water is not a problem even then the puppy turns over the big water bowl. I use a very wet mop.

Wow. Every day ia new day. I don't remember this at all ( but clearly I commented 2 years ago). It's gorgeous and it's great to know that you are still pleased with the flooring..

I put in a different Coretec last summer on most of our first floor and I am really happy with it.

Our"walkout" lower level basement has very worn blue carpeting from the previous owner.

It's my husband's man cave and the dog hangs there a lot. We don't use the walk out aspect so much any more. When we first got the dog, I would let him out in the super early horus of the morning and it was wonderful not having to get all dressed and decent looking.

Toying with replacing the flooring and was wondering about lvp for basment. It might be more $ than I want to spend, but nice to know that you are still pleased wtih it and it is so durable.
