We have sandy loam soil on a freshwater lakefront in Northern California zone 9b and just installed some sod. We have a couple little sloped areas that need something to hold the runoff.

Pic #2 shows a little mini mud slide only because the entire area was excavated and not compacted much at all.

We would like something with a bit of year round color and not too tall or bushy (blocking views). Rather than fill the space with just one thing we might like some variety so are open to suggestions.

And nothing too expensive! :-) These areas are not on a drip and will just get overspray and ground water from the sprinklers for the grass.
