Not sure where you live, but in colder climates, I like to have carpeting in a cold basement.

Thanks Rachel. We are in VA. I hate the current flooring but think its just the "cold" white tile and drab tan carpet. haha

We did LVP in the entire area... bar, etc. and use nice area rugs..... we love it...

Number one tip to make a large room appear smaller: two different types of flooring.

We live in super cold MN and put LVP in our basement. I don't find it cold or unappealing in the winter.

I'm voting for 2 floors for a simple reason: Carpet can be installed directly over the existing tile. If you want to lay vinyl throughout you will need to remove the tile = adds to the cost of renovation.

I would surely do the plank over the entire area. There is no question that it is a much better look.
