Sadly, those peas are not going to be any use for planting. They were picked unripe. For seed pea pods need to be dry, brown and ready to split open.

Oh, that's too bad ... they were ripe for eating, but I guess that isn't quite the same as ripe for planting. I'll have to go dig out the packets for my peas. (Hopefully this 90-100F weather goes away and we actually get fall, since we didn't get spring ...)

Being ready to eat is very different from being ripe. In fact green peas are eaten at an immature stage. If left until truly ripe they’d be only good for dried peas, not fresh green peas.

What i do is i pick them when they are dry, then i open the pods and put the in water. Then i wait till they start sprouting. I take them out the water then i plant them and add compost on them.
