80s Contemporary Addition?

We've lived in an 80s contemporary built in '79 for almost three years now that we love. It's ~1,250sq ft.

We'd consider adding on more space. I know it sounds a bit odd, but the space would be used for a large home office / virtual reality space (so lots of room to move around), and library. To this end, I thought of a "family room" addition, perhaps 22ft by 16ft, hoping to spend $80-100k.

Would it be realistic to add on to the left? Perhaps change the roof on that side so that it's a long, continuous slope?

Would it break with the current architecture if the addition used post and beams? There's a beam at our entry porch but none shown inside the house.

There are a lot of factors that influence an addition to an existing structure. Engage a local architect that can investigate current site an house condition, something as simple as where the utilities are located, what the zoning restrictions are, and which way is north.

Thanks Mark! That's good to know. We'd certainly hire a local architect or Design-Build firm if it seems feasible to add on to the house.

We're right outside city limits on 2 acres far from setbacks so hopefully shouldn't be too many zoning restrictions, though of course that's important to know up front. That wall faces SouthWest. Water comes in from the opposite side of the house but electric comes in on that side towards the rear of the house, which I wouldn't want to touch. (We have an electric utility room on the rear left corner of the house that I wouldn't want to touch.)
