Custom/Mod closet door

My apartment has a small utility/hallway closet that seems I rarely use and been looking for better places where to put my cat litter (today she uses a litter with a furniture box).

In an attempt to better use the space where her litter is I was considering in having her litter inside this closet (it would fit) and leaving plenty of space. However to do it I’d like to either:

Get a new door for the closet and get one of those cute “cat doors”
Look for someone that can modify the door to add an entry for her.

Looking for suggestions primarily for 1). If anyone has a recommendation or knows of a company that I can order a door with the special modification that would be appreciated.

I’m terrible with DIY, specially when it comes to cutting a thick closet door 😆

The best thing we ever did was rig up our litter (for 2 cats) to an enclosed litter space with a vent and small fan that runs continuously venting through a window. Absolutely no odor. It's been such a relief for years now. There are lots of ways this can be done.

First, make sure there is enough space for the cat door to open and allow the cat to step into the 'room' instead of directly into the litter box.

I would think you can find a handyman to install the cat door, then you can paint and decorate the door as you want. Otherwise, be prepared for the cost of a new door and installation.

You should also have a light in there along with ventilation. A small vent at the top of the door may be all you need.

You are a renter? Your landlord would need to approve your cutting a hole in this closet door. You might consider just removing it and replacing it with a bamboo shade that you can raise to the height that you wish.

@ptreckel no, I'm the owner. Now that I'll be working and living here for the foreseeable future I decided to start doing some work and one is to setup a nook bar that today only has my cat's litter box. I'm looking for a few options to where to move the litter box:
- Want to reduce tracking (hardwood floor is very nice and even with roomba once a day it still can scratch it).
- Moving the litter to under the bathroom sink is not an option (too small)
- I've the hallway closet which is pretty much empty (most of the bulk cleaning supplies are in the storage room)
I've been considering in replacing her litter box (old school litter box inside a litter box) with a modkat, just not 100% sure if I should have the modkat inside the closet (can't put vents but I can find something to keep the door open or replace the door) or somewhere else. Trying to avoid moving it to bedroom.

I don't have a problem with my cat's litter smell, she gets scooped once a day and I use a pretty good litter that also keeps the odor and I've litter liners, it is been years since I detected any nasty smell, even guests wonder if I have a cat.

You could use a door like this. The louvers would give you ventilation.

I wouldn't hesitate moving the litterbox to the bedroom. I have one in my bedroom and visitors say they would have never known.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the modkat. It's not easy for a cat with any physical issues (arthritis, etc) to enter/exit and it definitely wouldn't be large enough for my big Maine Coon cat.
