Need Help with Bathroom!

Trying to make the best of this bathroom. We have slowly done things but it's not finished. I've been stuck. The vanity is the original and although we don't love it we aren't willing to get a new one yet or rip it from the wall. Thinking of painting it and changing our the hardware. What color should I paint the vanity? Should the sink faucet match the toilet paper holder and towel bar as a set (brushed gold) or should I make it matte black since that's what the vanity light is? I also want to put shelves up above the toilet. I'm thinking that white shelves would help balance it out since if I do get gold it will be difficult to find the exact same tone of gold. Feeling stuck on how to make the most with what is already here!

In general, navy blue, gold and white look really good together. It's hard to tell on my monitor what color blue you have on the walls. I really like your cute shower curtain; so fun!

If you like the blue, gold and white motif, then you just need to decide where you want to put each color. Currently the blue is on the walls, and if you like that, paint the vanity white, or do a gold-leaf type of painting treatment if you want to glam it up. But you could switch it up if you want by painting the vanity navy blue, the walls white and keep the fixtures and mirror frame gold. Over the toilet floating shelves in wood or mixed metal and glass would be nice.

Lighting makes a huge different in how paint looks in a room. Do you have ceiling can lights? If so, change to bright LED bulbs. Then you'll be able to judge colors more accurately.

I can't tell what the floor tile is. Is the mirror just sitting on the sink or is it connected to the wall? I like the over the vanity light fixture, but maybe change the light bulbs to Edison style LED bulbs. Hopefully you have a ceiling light also, and can change that to LED. I do think making the faucet match the other gold fixtures is a good idea.

I think the mirror has the biggest impact on this room and I would look for one that is not framed in oak and is more interesting. I'd switch out the faucet with a brushed brass (doesn't have to exactly match), as your lights also have the brass in them. Plus, the faucet will not be so stark against the white sink and bring attention like it would if you did the black. I'd like to see a new mirror before thinking about painting the vanity. I was originally thinking painting it white just to make it blend with the sink but since the sink is so big compared to the vanity it may end up looking odd. You may also consider a larger picture on the wall instead of the tub one. It looks quite lost there. Check Craigslist and Facebook Market Place as they can be good sources for paintings and mirrors at a discounted price. You just have to check more than once!

Thanks! I do like the blue, white, and gold motif so I want to stick with that. The mirror is currently just standing on the vanity temporarily but will be hung up. It is also actually a brushed gold finish on the frame but it's not exactly the same gold as the toilet paper holder and towel bar fixtures. It's a pain because I bought this mirror as a replacement for another mirror but it was difficult to find something that had the same brass as in the vanity light. Basically none of the metals actually match. it does bother me but I can't return these things at this point and I feel like there has to be a way to make this all work cohesively. I agree the sink faucet should be gold instead of black since it will look stark against the blue wall.

I think your mirror is fine. Don’t worry about it. It doesn’t have to match exactly; in fact it’s prettier if it’s not a perfect match. Change the faucet to match your other fixtures.
