Can you help me with my maples?

I have two maples (in the picture). They were planted too close to one another. One is crowding out the other. Earlier in the year, I cut the offender back (the green one) and cut the dead wood out of the Crimson King. Unfortunately, parts of the Crimson King are still dying. Does anybody know what I should do?

Cut down the rest of the green one, which has a bent looking trunk and you have already begun to attack anyway - it is not a decorative landscape feature with half of the crown cut away.

In the meantime if the crowding is the only reason the purple one had some dying back then that will stop now that the green one is no longer crowding it.

Yes the two are too close together for their purpose and leaving both you will be continually fighting one or the other. If the purple one is the most desirable keep that and if you want a green one, plant a new green one further away.
