Gas Range 35.5" wide

I remodeled the kitchen in my new home in 2015. I do not cook so I ordered a very inexpensive, nice looking gas range. The range dimensions determined the size of the kitchen opening for the range and it fits perfectly. Unfortunately the gas oven does not work perfectly and I want to replace it The actual size of the range is 35.5" Most acceptable gas ranges are 35.75" or more. The space designated for the range will not accomodate more than 35.6". In order to fit 35.75" or more it will require dismantling cabinets, countertop, backsplash, etc. I made a huge mistake when I purchased this off brand range. Now I need to replace it with something that will fit in the space I have. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

@stemkin Is getting it repaired out of the question? Might be the route to least resistance until the kitchen is ready to be entirely remodeled. You can probably keep it going until then, especially if all you are doing is reheating food, etc.

If the stovetop is working, and you need occasional use of an oven or if repairs are too costly, I recommend just buying a Breville Smart oven. I have the Pro model and it fits every pizza except for Costco's fresh ones, and it's what I use 80%-90% of the time (and I cook most nights). The Air model is even a bit larger and allows you to cook on two levels at once. It replaced our toaster and our microwave about 50% of the time. If it was just me, I wouldn't even need the microwave but I have teens.

Jabaz: the thermostat has been replaced at my expense. The temperature is off by at least 50 degrees. Both the recommended repair person and I have tried to adjust the flame to coincide with the dial. It's impossible! Another repair person, also certified, was here for 3 hours and accomplished nothing (also at my expense) . When I contacted customer service regarding the trouble with calibrating he sent instructions but still no luck. He admitted the thermostat in a new range is calibrated before shipping. This was my first clue I had a lemon: The first time I used the oven the glass in the door blew out. I was making a frozen pizza. There was glass everywhere as you can imagine. Therefore, this range has a new door and a new thermostat. I think the mfg is having trouble with the gas ovens. It looks like their newer models ( that will not fit) have electric ovens.

wdccruise: thank you. One you attached is sitting in my kitchen. I really don't want to mess with one made in China if at all possible. This morning I turned the oven on again and tested it. (I guess I'm hoping the range fairy will come and fix it while I sleep). When set at 355 it settles at 315 and when set at 410 it heats to 356. The good news is since the thermostat replacement it heats without turning off on it's own. That's progress.

It's gonna be a lot easier to widen that opening than trying to find an oddball off-brand to fit. I'd charge ya a couple thousand dollars, but my rates are kinda high.

Free standing, slide in or drop in range that is the first question to answer. Then pictures of the area around the range .

A new 30" range and some filler pieces would be an option. You can sort through the choices pretty quickly on https://www.ajmadison.com . They show 193 gas ranges in 30" width.

    It is a freestanding range.

Maybe the thing to do is to just calibrate it. Figure out what the oven "temperature" setting has to be set to to achieve actual temperatures of, say, 350, 400, 450, and 500. If the range is consistent (i.e., temperature setting X always results in actual temperature Y), just make a label with the setting-to-actual values and use the range as is. Not worth spending thousand of dollars if you have a workaround.

I agree that is what we do in the restaurant when the heat is off in an oven. IMO a 35.5 “ range should have had at least a 36” slot so without a picture I can’t help.

I have a very accurate digital thermometer and every time I turn it on and try to get consistency it's just not working. Each time I save the temperatures on my cell phone so I can make comparisons. It usually runs at about 50 degrees below what it should be. I understand some variance is acceptable but I think 50 degrees is too much. I just heard from another repair person who is willing to come out and see if they can calibrate. I truly appreciate you input and ideas.

OK, so set the oven's temperature dial 50 degrees above the actual temperature you want.

I did the same thing with my cosmo range. :-( I hate it. I'm having same problems and in the same situation as you. I'd like to know what you ended up doing to rectify this please.
