A while ago I bought 4 beautiful Louois xv rosewood chairs. Ever since, I have problems dating them to the period of their origin.

They were upholstered with this greenish brocade. Sadly only one of them survived, the others were pretty damaged. It was probably silk since I tried burning a small piece and it didn't burn like synthetics. Underneath they were stuffed with black horsehair.

The chairs were damaged over the years and someone tried fixing them.

They have been upholstered a few times over the time since they have a few rows of nail holes. Some of the holes are round but the other square like. Most of them are almost black, I guess the iron corroded and stained the wood.

On the inside you can see saw marks that are irregular

Each is marked differently with a carving tool: I, V, X, XI, two of them were marked with a stencil, number 26 and 28.

The carwings on 2 of the chairs are turned to left while on the other two it's the way around (I suppose for aesthetical purposes? Never saw something like that before).

They are very delicate, some of the details have already faded.

I forgot to mention the dimensions, about 90cm, 40cm, 45cm H, D,W. The seat is about 42cm from the ground.

A friend of mine suggested that they are probably from the beginning of the 19th century but I'd like to hear other opinions
