Can you post a photo of another area of the floor you like better? I'm not a flooring expert, but this looks pretty good to me.

The install doesn't look all that bad. These are short-er pieces. When you said 'short' I was expecting to see 10" long pieces all lined up in a row. I'm not seeing that. These planks are a decent length if not full length.

How much waste/extra planks do they have? How long are those planks?

How are the planks installed? Are they nailed/stapled/glued/floated?

I’m not a pro but this looks good to me. Can you give the specifics of your floor, I like it!

I do agree they could have mixed the lengths a little better. You have rows of long lengths. Your room looks like about to be 500-600 sf. Which will allow you to get away with it. If, this is a 12x12 room, not so much.

I really don't think anyone is going to notice within a few months' time of living there. Can you negotiate a small discount on your final payment for this?

Brad, my flooring looks pretty much just like yours, engineered white oak. It came with four 3' planks and four 6' planks in each box. We laid them out in different piles to acclimate. When we installed, we varied the lengths and dry-set 2 rows before gluing and nailing to avoid exactly this. I see why you are upset. Beautiful floor, but they could have made it better...most people will not notice but a pro will.

Lucky998877 that’s exactly what I was hoping they would do- I’m not annoyed they used the pieces, I know they come in the box. I’m annoyed they used all the smaller pieces back to back like that. I’ve never seen an installer use the same length piece back to back let alone an entire column. Sounds like you were more on top of it!

G&S, you’re right, at least they didn’t use scraps as you mention. The long planks are around 72”, and the short ones are about 24. I’m mostly just frustrated they used them all in one spot and didn’t vary the length at all. They just glued 6 short pieces the exact same length back to back in several columns. I spoke to the manufacturer and they agreed that pieces of equal length should never be used back to back like this. I guess it’s just personal taste too

SJ- the long planks are 72” and the shorter ones are around 30. Main problem I have is they didn’t mix them up. They said they calculated the amount perfectly and only had 2 small scraps leftover at the end. On other jobs I’ve seen quite a bit more leftover to provide more options during install. It’s tongue and groove that’s glued and pin nailed in some spots.
