Off Center plaster Ceiling Medallion

In the dining room of our "new" 1960's home, the plaster ceiling medallion is over one end of our 108" table. How ugly/bad/awful would it be to use track lighting rather than putting a hole in the ceiling to swag a chandelier? I lean towards contemporary.
