Little Lime is a more compact, slow grower. It does not produce the large blooms that Limelight produces. Mine produced blooms like yours this year. They are also an off white compared to the more perfect white of Limelight. It likes the soil to be kept as evenly moist as possible. In the summer, it loses foliage near the center of the plant due to heat stress and that stress can take the form of high temperatures, lack of enough water, inconsistent watering, etc. You can try pinching in the Spring to try and make it look fuller. However, if you have a comingling of roots between the tree and the hydrangea because their roots both are shallow then yes, I would separate them. Oops, I just confirmed from the Morton Arboretum that the spruce has very shallow roots so yes, you can move it if you find that their roots are combining and stealing nutrients/water from each other.

The blue macs appear to have spent blooms that have changed colors from blue and are currently mostly green. However, you have a few stragglers that are now blooming from scratch, like some of the rebloomer macs do. These late blooming flower buds can occur due to temperature changes at a point near the end of the Summer or early Fall.

Luis, thank you. The deep blue blooms in the picture are on the neighboring shrub. From the outset the blooms on this end one were pale blue and yellow.

The pale blues, even near whites, can start to happen when the soil is not that acidic or when the plant has difficulty absorbing nutrients for some reason (too much water, root injuries, etc.). Immature (new) blooms can originally be yellowish or greenish before changing color what ever color they are supposed to be. But these blooms look too "old"/spent.

Or if the shrub is being grown in too much shade. The intensity of the coloring of macs is enhanced by sunlight.

It is also important to understand that the bud and flower development of macs grown in more northerly climates will be on a far different schedule than those grown in the south. Here, they rarely start blooming at all before the beginning of July and will continue to push out blooms until late September. None of my macs are showing any sent flowers. And these are not all reblooming varieties either. That's why instructions on when to prune (if at all) are pretty meaningless, as there is really no time after the shrub begins to flower when it is safe to do so without risk to next season's flowers.
