6 -8” is usually what I do but it also depends on the crown so pictures are good.

You have two identical discussion asking this question. @Patricia Colwell Consulting responded to both. I'm guessing that you started a new discussion because your old one got buried pages deep. When that happens, it's preferred and better etiquette to reply to your post with the phrase "bump". Some folks tend to get angry and scolding when they see duplicate discussions.

You found nothing helpful in any of the discussions? I stumbled across your double posting when I was doing a search for a discussion I participated in earlier this year on your very question. I as well as others provided lots of pictures and discussions. The OP was trying to decide baseboard height just like you. I didn't have time this morning to search for it. If I come across it, I'll loop back.

On both posts I was asked to provide pictures since I have the crown molding in place, and I posted them but I didn’t get the answer I was looking for yet.

Laurel's chart I posted above recommends about 6" - 7" high for a 9' ceiling with a crown that's 3" - 4". Your current crown seems fine but the baseboard looks to be only about 3" to 4" or so.

Everything is relative. I have a Dutch Colonial built in 1935. All ceilings are 8' on the first floor and about 7.5' on the 2nd floor. All baseboard throughout is 5 1/2" high. The LR and DR have 4 1/4" Crown. As an aside, I don't like painted shoe molding. I prefer it to match the floor.

Here's the DR. I know the "faux" wainscoting makes it hard to see. The LR has the same proportions without the wainscoting look. I don't have a good picture of the LR.

Here's an upstairs bedroom. You'll see that even with the low ceilings, the baseboard height looks OK.

Thank you missenigma. I was thinking 5 1/2 for mine with that crown molding. I don’t know if it’s too high or not.

5 1/2 is definitely not too high and would scale better than what's there now. I think a touch taller would be better but would be more expensive.

You could cut some strips of white paper and tape them above what you have now to get a better idea of what heights you like. So if your current base is 4" high, try taping a 2" or even 3" above it to get a feel for how 6" or 7" would look.
