Silica, you got to have a little patience, watch next spring. My tree’s will be ready.

They we’re ready this year but way too much rain, followed by high heat, 95* in the spring, not good. Lost 95% of flowers. Since it’s a hobby, I really don’t care all that much, but’s nice to have some fruits. Have a decent mix still.

If I was as young as Jan, I would grow my trees to the size I prefer than fruit, now pushing the century mark, I like small trees with fruit.

No Jan, Tong Dee are perfectly round, like most Pomelo’s, Valentines have a small shoulder.

When cut in half it resemble hart shape.

Jan, I don’t think it’s going to work, most are more happy somewhere else. You have been steady and I enjoy your company here more than any one. Anyway try to get a Valentine and a Thong Dee. I will give you a report when it’s picking time. I lean more towards Thong Dee. My wife,s friends do to. I don’t know how many more citrus tree’s you are going to add. You can find seeds of the best rootstock seeds or plants now, while it’s available ready for grafting. Its just to bad I could not send you stuff legally. I sure like to help you.

Lol well me and you are enough bob and I too enjoy your company! :) bob I went nursery hopping today and decidded to treat myself I got a huge ponkan tree that was 25% off at a nursery more than an hour away from my house they had 16 greenhouses spent almost a whole day in there. I’ve never been there before and I live all my life here lol I really haven’t gotten out much it seems. Anyways the tag says it came from record buck farms out in Florida I hope whatever it’s on is a good rootstock its very tall about 6ft I’m looking at my greenhouse and thinking might have to thin my collection even more! So might not have space for a thong dee or anything else! Although where there’s a will there’s a way I’m sure I can clear out some more space in there if I do find a thong dee lol

Barely fits in the door! Had to bring it in until I get help to lift the thing to the back yard since we have so many plant thieves here you wouldn’t believe what gets stolen from my front yard! Once I noticed a whole hydrangea tree missing just a hole in the ground unbelievable! What kind of -people steal a hydrangea out of the ground!

Bob how I wish we were neighbours I’m sure we’d share all the fruits and plants :) I just got a Seville sour orange so I can get the seeds for rootstock to graft on I’m starting to get used to grafting and not cutting myself as much! Can only get better from here thanks to the likes of you! :)

That tree was hard to resist, beautiful, wish they would knock off another 25 that would really be a sweet deal. Don’t know how windy it get at your place, might have to use a couple pieces of 1/2” rebar to hold the container in place, if that tree goes outside.

Is‘t it nice to spend more time leaserly to venture into the unknown to find stuff.

You can always keep another tree for future use, if one dies it’s there, ready to go. Our friend Brian does the impossible, he has to weasel through his greenhouse just to see what’s growing. Just be careful and don’t ask him too many questions, he gets mad and will no see him for awhile, that’s what happens with me.

Brian, reminds me of Tarzan and Jane of the North, hangs around his big tree’s, Jane is the smarter one, stays in the livingroom.

Here is another I am trying out, some of my tree uses trays, filled with water, add a decent amount of oil dry from different companies, including Turface/Tsc/Orreilies. To see how long they last. If they last longer than 2 years, I will use it when repotting.

Wish we could get pumice out East here. I ordered some years ago from CALI and it was great stuff! Fairly light-weight, greatly improves drainage, and lasts a long time. But way too expensive with shipping.

Dave, I have already tried it, I like it for my containers but it’s to expensive for me, cause i Use too much, but it’s on trial on several containers.

Living out west, pumice is everywhere and quite inexpensive. I use it for cactus. I have never tried it for citrus. I might be fun to try a tree in it, sort of like a gritty mix. I don't know how well citrus would do in it, as I have never tried. Like Dave said, it would last for a long time.

Pumice is heavier than Perlite and can contribute to a heavier pot. When I can find the course, larger-sized Perlite, that's what I typically add to my soil.

Bought 2bags Mother Earth, vulcanite to try out instead of pumice, actually the same thing.

It,s available local. Expensive! Had to skip further use. This stuff is pretty good if you only grow a few trees. 40? No!

So many options right? At least we know if one invests in making a good quality mix with ingredients that don’t break down , you will find yourself doing far less repots because of broken down mixes and your trees will thank you.
