Mid August Blooms

Some of my lates are really hanging in there well, while some other cultivars started to bloom in recent days.

Selected Seedling MD X TUS 2 is a late that started blooming on June 25 and still has one more bud. I said if this one made it to 15 buds, it would be selected for registration because of its lateness. One scape had 14 buds and other 16, so I've got my average of 15 for the bud count. Blooms measure from 6.5-7 inches on 25 inch scapes. It doesn't have a flower every day, and that's what keeps it going so long. I think the bloom before this one was six days ago. It has five fans now, so I think it will be about 3-4 years before it's registered.

Warm In Winter first bloomed back in late June on one scape. It's a new one from this Spring. Now it has three more scapes, one of which started blooming a few days ago.

Tides Roll In is still reblooming. I crossed it with Warm In Winter. It's supposed to rain later, so I don't know if I can set a pod or not.

This Blazing Saddles kid is reblooming. It's also been selected for registration, based on the high bud counts of 23 and 34 on two of the four scapes, and the rebloom. This one looks more like a UF in the early season. Now it just looks extra large. First blooms were 9 inches. The ones on rebloom are in the 8 inch range.

Zuzu's Treasure is having its last flower on the first rebloom scape. Another rebloom scape is on the way! I'm very excited to see this one reblooming so well this year. It's only bloomed one other time before, and that was five years ago.

Morning Pleasure

Karelia x Palace Garden Beauty is on its last rebloom flower.

Selected Seedling The Ultimate Sacrifice X RE 1 is still reblooming and has more rebloom scapes on the way.

Last Chance for Romance is still at clump strength.

Also still blooming are lates Royal Jester and Tiffany Shade.

It’s great to see you have some rebloomers and lates still going. Now I know with some better weather here or more watering I could get rebloom on Zuzu’s Treasure. Your seedlings are still looking great, I especially like the Blazing Saddles kid today.

I think my favorite is the Blazing Saddles kid in it's present form. Don't remember it if you posted it when it looked more UFy (is that even a word?). Anyway, I like the pattern and the saturated colors. Great bud count............Maryl

Selected Seedling MD X TUS 2 is quite striking, as is the Blazing Saddles kid. I really like them. The rest of the flowers are pretty too.

Still pretty. How's the color do in the sun? Looks like the petals are pretty turgid.
One of the reasons I liked my now deceased Rudy UF so much. Substance and not droopy...............Maryl

Maryl - When it's really hot and there hasn't been much rain, the lavender petals on the Blazing Saddles Kid can start to look tan even though the petals are thick. That's the reason I may end up not registering it.

The red late is the one that keeps in color in the hottest temepratures. It's the perfect daylily to be blooming in July and August.

My fave is the Blazing Saddles kid (both looks). BTW, the Blazing Saddles seedling you sent me last year got tall for me this summer, about 38 inches. Bud count was only 11 but bud counts were down for almost everything on account of the drought. I look forward to seeing what it can do under better conditions.

Celeste - The Blazing Saddles seedling looks very pretty in your garden! I think 33 inches was the tallest it ever grew here, and the highest bud count was 13. I'm glad it's surviving in your colder climate!

Your red seedlings are so pretty and giving rebloom is an added plus! I agree with everyone about the Blazing Saddles seedling-very nice! Last Chance for Romance keeps blooming well, doesn’t it?

Kate - Yes, Last Chance for Romance blooms well throuhout the month of August, even though it's in part shade. It has an old-fashioned looking bloom, but when nothing else much is blooming, it's sure nice to have a pretty pink clump,

Sherry - It takes lots of water for Zuzu's Treasure to rebloom. The last time it rebloomed - five years ago, I was heavily watering because of a drought. I don't consider it a reliable rebloomer, but I'm grateful to have the rebloom this year.

The Blazing Saddles seedling is a real beauty. The red Ultimate Sacrifice is a really beautul too. I have commented before on the Karelia x Palace Garden Beauty lovely. your lates are all very pretty.
