'Caroline de Sansal'

I'm looking forward to seeing this rose this fall and next year. She's still getting going, and of course a hot sticky rainless late summer like we're having doesn't show a rose at its best. But I like the Hybrid Damask look to CdS, and she's starting to sucker out a bit. This class overall does well for me, also the Damask-leaning Hybrid Perpetuals--and I think they're beautiful--and I'm always glad to find another variety belonging to this group. Is anybody else growing 'Caroline de Sansal'?

Wow - I looked CdS up on HMF - that is one gorgeous rose! Do you have any problems with the blooms balling with so many petals?

In the case of this rose, I've just this year really started looking at the roses in this bed, which up until now have been young, struggling, and smothered in weeds and grass; and in Caroline's case it was the habit and foliage that caught my eye lately, not the blooms. So I don't know. Very double flowers do mostly do fine here, though.

I'm glad to get an answer to my query, even if it doesn't come from someone who grows this rose: thanks, Jackie! Is there anybody out there who grows it? I just checked and see that it's in the Vintage Gardens rose book, which suggests it's in commerce in the U.S.
