Paint the wall behind your bed a favorite color.

Replace the tables and lamps with wider, larger tables and chunkier lamps.

Buy a large area rug that fits under the bed and almost fills the whole room. I suggest you start with the rug so that you can use colors from the rug in the rest of the room.

Buy a bed skirt and a bedspread with pillow shams. Coordinate the color with the colors in your new rug.

Install an attractive (white and contemporary) ceiling fan with a light in the center of the room.

Buy natural Roman shades for your windows. I like ones that go from the bottom up so that you have privacy in your room but you can still get light and air.

Put vertical paintings on either side of the bed behind the lamps.

The desk can stay or you can replace it with a dresser.
