UPDATE, NEED MORE FEEDBACK

I’ve been posting my new construction bathrooms along the way looking for feedback on how to improve the space. Please give me your thoughts!

Improve in what way? What's wrong with what you've got?

Not sure lol! Struggling with my selections. Not that I can change them right now but just like feedback. Thanks!

    @shoemaker thanks for the feedback!

I agree with the comment about the mixed metals. Not sure what you have planned for the walls, but perhaps consider some color vs. white paint. You have a lot of white going on already between the floors, cabinets, counters and trim.

I agree that the style of the cabinet hardware does not match with the faucets and also doesn't match with the light fixtures or the towel holders - all of those are quite traditional leaning, while the cabinet hardware reads more modern. I'm not sure you have to match metals as much as you need to have a cohesive style -- Before you switch out anything, decide what your style is and switch out the things that don't match your style. What is the plan for a mirror or mirrors? -- whatever you do there should also try to work with whatever the style for the room is.

I think the mixed metals could work *if* you can find a mixed-metal mirror for the vanities, something like this, maybe:

My mirrors are frameless pivot mirrors with nickel hardware. I’ve seen a lot of pictures lately with mixed metal bathrooms. I really want to keep that going but maybe just try to get more cohesive on my style and switch out the faucets and light fixtures.

Carrie you have the right idea.

I don't see an issue with the mixed metal. I think it is the style of the handles vs. the style of the faucet that is causing a bit of a disconnect. Although it is possible it could work in the end. Nothing looks great overall while it is in the middle of things and nothing is fully finished.

I agree that the style and metals are the issue and I would add, the finishes. When you mix metals you mix two different metals, not three and maintain a similar finish. As for style, you either go modern or traditional, not both.

In the first bathroom, the light fixture seems to have introduced a third metal. Looks like you have brushed nickel, brushed chrome and gold. Nickel and chrome look similar but have different tones - I think that might have happened here.

In the second bathroom, the gold light fixture has such a different finish to the gold hardware that it doesn't even appear to be the same metal. Pay attention to the "brushed" or "polished" call outs when shopping for finishes, especially if you are trying to match a corresponding metal, like gold.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I feel really defeated. I couldn’t afford a designer to help me make all of the selections so I tried to do the best I could but now we are too far into the building to make too many changes. Does anyone have a suggestion about what I should make the priority to change? I may have to wait until we move in and hire someone to come swap things out. I need to try to keep the handles on the cabinets because I would hate to have to patch holes on brand new cabinets. Thank you!

I wouldnt change a thing. Just keep moving forward and you will love the end result because you chose it. A designer is a person with an opinion - you, too, are a designer. So pick yourself up and realize this whole project has been a good thing - you’re so close to having a brand new bathroom. Theres no substitute for new - everyone loves brand new. Im really excited for you. Please post after pics for us to enjoy and celebrate alongside you. Today is a good day.

That means more than you know. Thank you for your words of encouragement!!

IMO the closed in vanities are awful and that is what I would have been concerned about.I have to agree the mix of modern sinks and the traditional faucets and the brass and silver just do not work but those are things you can change later.

Patricia, my bathroom is really small so I didn’t have much choice. Thank you for your feedback.

Honestly, changing out the pulls to a more traditional style will pull it all together. I'm sure you can find some pulls the same size so there won't be a need for filling holes. Overall a beautiful space but needs a few minor tweaks.

What do you all think about this? These changes shouldn’t be that hard to make once we move in.

    Much better!

The lights are still a bit traditional but could work. What about something like this, hung horizontal:

    or this

    I definitely like those! Thanks!

    Bingo!

If you can't change anything anyway, don't ask. You will get some negative feedback, and it will stick in your head forever.

Two things I'd do -- and these aren't set yet:

    - I'd forget the expensive, trendy pivot mirrors. Go with one large wall-to-wall mirror. It'll cost less, it'll make the room look larger, no dust behind it, and it's more functional in that you can see your whole outfit /not just the bit that shows in that skinny mirror.

    - Hurry up with the accessories. All bathrooms look "empty" at this point. You need some color from linens and mats, and you need a bit of greenery.

Just want to say thanks to all of your for your help! Our builder is allowing me to swap out our fixtures. Thank GOODNESS. So, this is what I went with.

Sorry that’s the wrong picture.... this is the correct one 🤪

This will be the hall bath! Hoping it all looks good once it comes together. No turning back now (for real this time)! 😂

I think it looks really good and seeing that light fixture with the rest really shows how well they coordinate!
