IMO those arches need to go and yes all the windows should have the same grid pattern and those shutters on either side of the door just look silly and I agree that weird open piece makes no sense on that roof side. Unless you are redoing the roof I probably would put a window box there for now. I see no walkway from the street to the front door and with that english garden type landscaping that is a must along with some kind of gate and fence probably.

Patricia, I agree with you on all of those points! Those are all things we were planning on doing eventually. If the grud pattern is the same, will it make that larger window look too busy? Will it matter that the window on the left is still much smaller than the right?

Play with it. You can add symmetry with a central path coming to the main door (even if you are not going to use it), maybe with a pair of nice formal evergreens. Than if you have a main symmetrical line established, the part on the right will be a pleasant braking of predictability. I would definitely use the landscaping to make it work. I think the roof part will need to be fixed, but the window adds quirkinesses in a nice way.

The arches look like they may be linking a former breezeway from the garage to the house. Is that screened in or are they glass? You could easily take that out and update with posts, glass or screen. The shutters at the garage and font door need to go. The garden is great and if you bring more if it up to the house the eye will go to plantings and not so much to what you think is asymmetry. As for the gap in the roof. I would design some kind of pergola with ivy or climbing roses which is a typical way to do it.

I would remove the shutters from the front door and the garage. I would paint the garage door the same color as the siding and also paint the breezeway the siding color. I would paint the trim around the windows and the fascia white.
