No edge or trim piece.....just a vertical line at the sides of the hood where the herringbone design meets
the standard subway layout. If the hood is made of wood, there probably is a standard required distance
between the cooking surface and the hood. I doubt that an electric cooktop poses much of a fire hazard.
I do prefer to have the hood higher than my head...or at least no deeper than the upper cabinets.

Grout no trim is between the different patterns.

The photo does not have any trim in between, but you are correct to use a pencil. It will look much more finished.

Thanks all. My hood is much further away than my inspiration’s. Actually, when I posted here, everyone complained mine was too far apart & urged me to rip it out and start over. There’s no pleasing everyone.
