It's a petunia which grows in full sun. Probably a watering issue...too much or two little. Does the pot have drainage? How often do you water?

And how often do you fertilize?

Once you've found a sunny location, I suggest that you cut your plant back severely, begin regular fertilizer applications with a soluble houseplant product, and watch it grow back rapidly.

i suspect you bought a plant in full bloom.. forced early for spring sale ... and this is what they look like.. when they are basically spent for the year ...

if you had bought your own small plants.. a month or two later ... you would have waited an extra month or so for the show to start.. but you would have gotten into further into fall ... before it started looking this way ...

when you buy in spring.. by the youngest looking plant you can... and delay gratification a few weeks.. rather than buying the gorgeous one ...

imo .. its time to dump out the pot.. clean it.. and hang it in the garage until next spring.. when you can try planting your own ...

and if my presumptions are wrong.. i apologize, if need be ...

Hanging baskets dry out very rapidly in summer......often they will require daily attention. It looks like the basket dried out excessively at some point. Annuals in containers will need frequent fertilization as well.

This late in the season, I would not expect to see much recovery from these plants. Maybe you should switch them out for more of the fall season annuals, like pansies or violas. But make sure you are using a proper container potting soil and monitor watering needs closely.

Ditto what gardengal says—— Potted plants, in clay, plastic or ceramic pots need daily watering all summer long, except when it rains.

Also, I have a deck as well and I can tell you that when the sun is shining on it, it gets very, very hot and I believe it can radiate up, depending upon the configuration of your house, deck and yard which may affect the plants too.

Also, as Ken says, rather than buying that $40 hanging basket on Memorial day weekend, clean and save your pots to plant yourself next year. I have done this with coleus plants. They are small to start with, but stunning a month later and into the fall.

I probably didn't water enough. Then I tried to compensate and water a lot. I have a soil moisture sensor and I try to keep in in the "just right" area on the meter. The hanging basket was beautiful when bought on June 15. It was also in shaded area. So I thought maybe it needed more shade. I'll get it back in sun and see if I can revive it for a week or two. If nothing happens, I'll find a fall plant for the basket.

I agree the plant appears starved for nutrients, and should be cut back hard. It should also be checked for spider mites and watered carefully on an as needed basis.

in my MI... there is not enough season left.. to cut it back hard ... and hope it looks good again ... i would assume.. that would be different in warmer climes ....

but ... and there is always one around ... to turn your thumb greener.. cut it all back to about 3 inches.. and just watch and see what happens ... and learn some more ... nothing to lose ...

btw.. the heck with a meter ... you should be able to tell if it needs water.. simply by the weight of the pot ... a wet pot is heavy ... a pot that needs water is half or less the weight ... and since its hanging there.. and you dont even have to bend over.. just try lifting an inch.. and learn to tell the difference ....

Worms won't help - if they lived, their contribution would be to chew up the soil and turn it to mud.
