Yellowing Leaves of Oakleaf Hydrangea

I have a Ruby Slippers Oakleaf Hydrangea sapling I transplanted in June to a SW corner of my house. It was healthy and green when I transplanted it, but then it began to turn very light green and yellow, and it has gradually turned to golden yellow with bronze spots. The soil is moist and fertile with a layer of organic mulch. There used to be an old stump where this Hydrangea is planted, but that stump had been removed, although there are still some remnants of it down deep in the ground. The hydrangea is getting average moisture and full sun. I know Ruby Slippers can handle more sun than the species, but it is still an oakleaf hydrangea, so O wasn't sure if the full sun is causing the leaves to turn yellow. Any advice you can give me would be helpful. Thank you.

Look up interveinal chlorosis.

"can handle more sun" is a relative term. Down here where the sun is strong in the summer (not sure where you are), RS needs afternoon and evening shade. A few hours of sun would help produce nice Fall foliage.

I suspect iron chlorosis too. The leaves that are affected appear to be new leaves. I would check the soil acidity and amend the soil but I would also keep an eye on the amount of sun that it is getting. It may be too much sun too.... during the worst of the summer months. However, too much sun would make the leaves in direct contact with the sun turn yellow, including the leaf veins, and that is not the case here (yet). Full sun in very early Spring and at the end of Fall is ok as I have had potted oakleafs in full sun during those times and they showed no problems.

I have Henry's Garnet and it's in full sun.

Henry's Garnet is a Virginia Sweetspire, and my Ruby Slippers is an Oakleaf Hydrangea. They are in two different families of shrubs. I would say that Virginia sweetspire could tolerate more sun than oakleaf hydrangea.

Hey, maybe that's what I should plant there after I get a soil test done.
