Various leaves.

I am a little thrown off by all of the way different pictures of the leaves... wow it does seem confused :) But is it possibly Birchwood Parky's Gold? I don't have it, but I have seen a few that I thought looked similar to that.

These 2 have never produced any seed pods.

Jewel of the Nile or Alex Summers?

Thank you utog. Jewel of the Nile certainly sports enough to qualify but both it and Alex Summers have higher vein pair counts. This is useful since my plant(s) are mature. J of the N also produces many seed pods and mine produce none. I really appreciate your thoughts on this! Happy to say I just planted Alex Summers last week.

30 years ago .. the one that was this unstable.. was gold standard ... and it could be in that realm ...

Thanks Ken. I really thought you would be the one to be able to positively ID it! I did get sent these as Gold Standard (did not want to color any ones ID) but they just never displayed as such. I suppose that happens with unstable ones.

In The Color Encyclopedia of Hostas by Diana Grenfell there is a pic on page 141 of Richland Gold sporting from Gold Standard. It shows similarities but confuses me since Richland Gold is......gold. Thoughts? It might help with yours by the garage. I did check out Marion Bachman too since you had a recollection of that. Thanks again!

i checked MB in the library.. didnt impress me as this plant ...

but it was next to my MB... in the garden ... often when i cut something off a plant.. i used to just shove it in the ground next to it ... but i dont think that is what happened here ...

anyway.. anything named richland was van wade ... just fyi

Thanks Ken. I checked out all the Richland series after seeing that pic from Diana Grenfell. Still confused by her pic and conclusion concerning what it was sporting to.

peren, the most confusing pic is the second one in the comments where it looks dark green with a light green edge. It seems no other leaf looks even close to this one.......Perhaps this is the actual leaf color and all the others are changing, sporting for some reason. I guess what I mean, is that seems to be the only identifiable leaf.......am I making any sense this morning....... lol

Debra in the first pic in the original post you can see that one is nearly half and half with green leaves edged in light green/yellow whereas in the second pic in the original post it really only has those two leaves that are splashed with soil you refer to. So yes, you are making sense.

I do think it is Gold Standard trying to become whatever sport especially in the first smaller one. The second larger one is trying to become every sport lol!
