Here's a picture, forgive the construction mess. I think we are going to go with the yellow you can see on the left, unless anyone has a really good idea.

Hi Mark, What flooring do you have in the yellow room?

That's part of the problem. When we put that floor in about 6 years ago we wnet with an inexpensive option and regret it now. We put in linoleum. It looks nice enough, but now it's hard to tie in the entry room.

Is the "entry room" to be simply your foyer, or does it have to serve as your sitting/living room too?

Yellow doesn't say beachy to me. I do like dark brown with blues, though, in particular something like Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue.

I was thinking about "separating" the room into an entry and a sitting/reading room. By separating I mean using two different types of flooring and a bulit-in coat rack or hutch haflway down 1 wall.
