Carpentry Question: How to create under-stairs storage cubby.
Comments (6)Under the stairs spaces can be smart and appealing. We recommend hiring a carpenter because your stairs will have to be deconstructed at the rough frame level. You can use any kind of hinges that you like although your best choice would be a backwards piano or continuous hinge so that the hinging mechanism can be concealed. If you'd like to send me a picture of your stairs at ssouth@legendofsouth.com, I can comment further. Best, Steven South, Owner, LS Enterprises...See Morestorage under my basement stairs

Comments (6)Oh ninigret, such good advice with the yellow stickers. And Ann for suggesting what's on the other side of the wall. Heh, I'm guilty of all the ugly stuff that goes to the other kitchen. For me it's the canning/brewing kitchen that currently lives in the three seasons porch and is being relocated in the fall to an outbuilding. I love all my ugly stuff. The random measuring cups and scorched pots, mendware and stories mixed in with utilitarian things. And I do like using wall space. In kathylan's OP pic- the stainless steel pots and lids on the right on the middle shelf could be taken out of the cupboard and hung on the wall above. The white colander to the left of the pots on the same shelf on a peg off the upper cabinet face. Also, if there are mugs to be hung, the upper cabinet face can have cup holders for easy access. During the off season when the kitchen is not in use. Just get a container/box(s) big enough to fit the stuff on the wall into it and pack it up and leave it in the kitchen during off season. Makes dusting and such easier when you reopen the kitchen....See Morehappyleg
