Everything is based on proportions. Small shower with large tiles will not make the bathroom look larger it will make the tile look out of place. "Large tiles on the floor" how large are we talking about... 12x12 or 24x24?

I agree with GN.

It depends on the look you want. If you look on Houzz, there are very large bathrooms with tiny hex tiles, smaller rooms with larger format. I don’t think either makes the rooms actual size change.

That said, you can go bigger but you want to be able to actually see a floor of tiles, not just one or two.
