Hosta color changes through season

This is the first year I really noticed my hosta color changes. My hosta experience is limited, but I inherited many. Last year I just thought maybe my memory was bad. But, these pictures highlight nicely how they change. The pictures are taken from very similar angles. In the first picture in early spring, the two hosta on either side against the sitting rock are bright with yellow. It is a welcome sight! Now in the second photo they are both completely green, and the formerly green one in the background is alive with yellow. I like the color placement, and it was pure dumb luck. It's fun and interesting to watch them change.

I I know that hosta "White Wall Tire" changes color from spring to summer, but I don't think that is the hosta shown.

That's a new variety for me. I have several hosta that start yellow and turn green later in summer, but none that look like that. I hope someone can ID them.

Peren, you may have guessed correctly. Pics in the HL look just like F. Albopicta. What a beautiful hosta! I started taking photos of my hostas in spring as they first start to unfurl. The changes are amazing and fun to watch!

Debra the changes really are fun to watch especially when it works out the way it did for Deanna.

I like my FA all season long. That screaming yellow in spring gradually softening and fading to green. Even into full summer you can just make out the differences in the greens. The prominent veins keep it interesting late into the season. All around a very nice one!

Yes, peren, thank you! I had no idea what it was, so I'm glad for a name. It does look like the photos online. Up close you can still make out the slight difference in the greens up close. I should post photos of my other NOID hostas, and I have MANY one day. You all are fantastic at IDs.

Just across the path from FA, but not in the photo, is Journey's End. It emerges very green and now has green/yellow variations that are a favorite. One of my favorite hostas, and I love how it and FA swap places throughout the growing season color-wise.

Babka, the leaves haven't really changed shape. It is probably just the change in a new leaf vs an old leaf. We have been VERY dry here, and in the later picture it's possible the leaves were drooping ever so slightly, which might change how they look in the photo. During a long dry spell the hostas seem to be doing just fine, but after over and inch of rain I notice they stand taller with better posture. Maybe I should put my teenagers out in the rain. ;-)
