Where would you want the traffic area to be -- the walk path from family room to rec area?

You could wrap the post and make it part of a table height or kitchen countertop height room divider cabinet about 16" in depth with an 18" countertop finished on both sides that spans from post to wall (with matching one on the other side) leaving a walk path in the center; alternately, you could add another post and and center a single room divider cabinet.

If you build a cabinet in the center, you could have a walk path all around it and a place to hang a tv that is not above the fireplace as well as a place to store video games and other media related items and/or a place for a pool cue rack and/or a wall against which you can set a sofa or other furnishings. If you want more "bar" seating, you could just do the countertop between two posts without any cabinets below.

Use a combination of solid doors and glass doors and even open shelves so that you can store some stuff out of sight but display other items.

I could be wrong (but I am not), but the column (telepost?) should be in the center of the concrete pad which will evenly distribute the weight supported by the column to the undisturbed earth below it.. I see two columns shown on the drawing and three columns in the image. It is not to late to change, but it will involve an engineer, different beam, more concrete, more time, and (of course) more money.

Check the required space needed for the pool table.

Rethink the bedroom closet.

Years from now you may be referring to this house as "The Adventure".
