Woodworking Design Dilemma

Neutralizing yellow color in bleached fir

I have some skylights that are framed by exposed fir beams. They are quite red and dark but I can get them much lighter by bleaching them. When bleached they turn yellowish.

My entire home is going to be done in neutral colors. I don't need to get the beams the exact color as my floors or anything else. But it would be great if they could fit the overall look.

Any ideas on how to stain them to neutralize that yellow?

Bleaching is not the right solution. The bleached wood is likely to change when exposed to the sun. Whitewash the fir with a paint thinned with water and then applied.

My wood floors are a smoked european white oak. I would describe them as a darker beige. Almost a taupe. I'd be happy if the beams complemented them with a lighter neutral color rather absolutely having to be a match.
