Remodeling with oak trim

I am unsure what to do with my oak trim and cabinets in my house. I do not want to replace or reface the cabinets, but would paint them. I'm not sure how much of the oak trim to get rid of in the house. I do not change often, so nothing too trendy. I do want to replace all carpet with wood flooring and replace the tile in the kitchen with another tile.

Your tile in the kitchen isn't too bad - pretty neutral. You could paint/stain the grout the same color as the tile and I think it would look great. Re: painting the cabinets. Definitely hire a pro - oak has a texture that shows thru unless care is taken - you don't want to go thru all of the work and then have them look "cheap". You didn't say if you were going to replace your trim or paint it. If painting, follow the same advise.

Oak won't be out of favor forever, so unless you are willing to put a lot of $$ into the remodel, I'd stick with the oak and update other items in the house - the stair runner and the flooring, for sure.

You might find some inspiration with that house. They have oak trim everywhere. I think the big lesson from their example is how fresh oak trim can look paired with color. Your home right now has everything finish in shades of beige and brown. Nothing for the oak to contrast with.

The oak trim is beautiful - leave it. Update the rest - new paint colors, new flooring. That will breathe life into the home...

I'd put wood flooring everywhere including the kitchen. I've had wood flooring in my kitchen for years, not a problem.

Well I finally did it-new floors. Loving it. Kept my honey oak kitchen cabinets and doors. Now I’m trying to decide if I should paint the fireplace white. Also, I’m keeping the oak doors, should I paint the casings of the windows and doors white or leave them honey oak? The rug will go in the room with the fireplace

Floors look great. What is that over your fireplace? Not sure about white for the fireplace but the color of the wood doesn't seem to be the best for the floors and the walls now. I'd definitely paint the crown moulding. Maybe a color expert will weigh in. I like the bathroom with the wainscoting.

Wow floors look terrific - you must be so pleased! white doesnt seem right for the fireplace, I would put a pin in that for now - what are your plans for the wall color?

Over the fireplace is where we took a mirror down. Either another large mirror or a television will go there. The color of the walls is accessible beige.

Lots of ways to go on this, wish I could help more but the fireplace definitely needs painting, not sure of the color though. If you don't get a lot of responses, consider creating a new post with "color" in the title. I love seeing the change from five years ago but some folks might open the post and see the original is old and not keep reading. Your post title also doesn't match the current dilemma so that might be confusing to some. Hope you get some color experts!

You made some good selections with flooring and paint color. The oak trim is greatly toned down and not nearly so noticeable.
