Remove a piece ( one seat )of that sectional Or, if enough space, get rid of the corner.. Why would you completely block access to the dining beyond? Begin with a rug f

The room is neutral, you are showing one angle, and we have no idea what colors you may even enjoy. for the seating area. Pull colors and tones for art and pillow from that rug..........that you don't yet have

Really, having a sectional block that opening is just wrong. You need to get the furniture layout right before you start looking for pillows and rugs.

Thank you ! I don’t have a lot of space :-(... I will change the furniture layout then....

    It depends what you like.

Bright colors like bright red, orange and yellow would look really good. Don't over do it with decoration. This would be me because I like strong and bright colors. But even if you do something you like, it still will seem to look good. You are the one who has to live with this. Choose something that makes you feel happy.

A lot of things work with this style and of color of the couch. Pretty much you really do not need to worry about what you use to decorate. This is a very neutral color and style couch. Just show how you want to decorate it, and ask other people opinion.

What's on the right side? can you just turn it? So it goes along the back and on the right? It'll be ok, you don't need lots of money to make it cozy. you're off to a great start! did you like any of those rugs?

I purchased this rug... is gray....

It is so hard for me .... I am just learning from you guys ....

I just discovered that my style is modern 🤷🏼‍♀️

    @Nelly Roman

    Looks great.

Nice sectional, but agree to turning it the other direction (is there a window on the far right wall that's out of the photo?) I would bring over to the far right wall.

What are you favorite colors? In other words, what color(s) do you want to bring into this space?

No window ... to be honest I love the red color ! I think is my favorite

Get the rug in turn the furniture then go get some art you love that is where the colors for the pillows will come from. BTW I love the rug it adds a ton of texture to the space without fighting with any art you buy.

I'm confused with all the doorways. Is that a sink in your LR? Just sitting temporarily I hope. LOL. Does the pantry open to the kitchen also, or only this LR? Where does the opening left of sink go?

I can't imagine why the pantry is open and visible from the living area! Please put doors there. I think TV should go on the sink wall and the sofa should turn, even if you have to lose one or those middle seats. Perhaps it can tuck into a corner left or right of the TV.

Allison my husband is changing the title on the bathroom floor... the sink is there temporarily 😂

All the TV connections are on that wall ... that’s why we put the tv there 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

This is more complicated that I thought 😢

We removed the pantry door to paint .... need to put it back ....

That sectional is WAY too big for that space. You should never block an opening like that; it will totally impede traffic flow. Put the sofa on Craigslist, and put whatever money you get from the sale toward the purchase of furniture that is scaled properly to that room. Don't buy another sectional. Then you can think about accessories. :-)

Is the pantry walk-thru or only accessible via the LR? If walk-thru, I would close up the LR entrance.

Hey, I've seen sinks in the bedroom corner, so WTH knows! LOL

Do you have attic, basement or crawlspace access? TV connections are easy to move and the sectional will work. Without moving, the sectional is way too big for the space.

    Thank you !

It looks like your sectional is made up of interchangeable pieces? If it is, just move the center armless piece on the side blocking the dining room over to the other side, so you'd have two armless pieces together on the side against the wall. That will fix the blocking problem, but the tv is mounted way too high to view comfortably, so hopefully you can lower it or move to the other wall.

If you are streaming TV you don't need the cable hook up to the TV. If you have Amazon Prime then just purchase the Fire Stick and with just internet service you can stream to your TV. Here is a possible layout for your room.

Olychick I did that and here is the outcome .... not sure is that better 🤷🏼‍♀️

That is no better, and actually worse, since now you have an arm in the middle of the sofa, and no arm on the end. Can you split them and have them face one another?

I know... now is worse.... I think I made a bad decision buying the sectional but now is too late 😭😭😭
I will have to block that opening .... 😢

  • PRO

No, please don't block the opening. Either use them facing each other, or move one of them to another room. You can salvage this with some creativity!

That's not what I was suggesting. Are the 2 armless pieces and the wedge all connected to each other? I'm assuming so, since you didn't add the one armless piece next to the other.

If blocking the opening is the only way you can live with this piece, just move the whole thing toward the tv so there is room to get around the part that is blocking. You have several feet clearance on that wall to move the whole thing down. You may have to lower the tv, but it's too high where it is now anyway.

it's not the end of the world. work with what you have! If you have to block the opening, block it. it's just a sofa for goodness sakes. hang some awesome art, get a nice carpet and live...so what if the door is blocked.

For neck comfort, the tv should be lowered. Once this is done you can move the sofa more towards it - I agree with Olychick. This will make it easier to go from room to room.

YOU SHOULD END UP WITH THIS:

Wow! It is unbelievable how rude the professionals are on here. It is not professional at all. I would think the main point of them giving free advice on here is to gain new clients. This sure isn’t going to do it. Complete turnoff. Does no one at houzz.com police these comments? Comments like this give the website a bad reputation. Completely uncalled for! And then to take it a step further to make another post solely about thIs. Would you talk to these people this way if they were your client? I’m just dying to be your client, NOT!

Oh come on!! The sectional did not ship, nor did it come through a doorway, all put together. At some point, we do have to use the round object 36 inches above the you know what.

If the op can grab hubby, and jiggle the pieces, or grab a friend that can help jiggle the pieces? She might have a more attractive room, an ability to actually get to the dining area, and some sort of answer to the dilemma.

The screen shot, the scan, the notes, the post, and the only logical solution allowing a view of the TV in its locale................ were FREE. Do it, don't do it. But if one believes pillows are the answer to the real issue? They are not. They will be nice pillows on a poorly planned purchase. Fix the real problem, first.

Have a happy Labor Day !

Believe me I appreciated all of your comments.... I don’t take the comments on a bad way... totally the opposite... I been learning a lot with you guys ... I prefer to be told the truth as it is. It's the only way I'm going to learn..., This is all new to me.... Is a townhouse and I want it to look beautiful especially my living room, donning room and kitchen. Again thank you !!!

Good for you Nelliy. Now......Get some he man, and move that. You will have a nice long sofa on which to recline......you may have to SPOON. I can't fix that. But you can get the tv moved: )

Best I can do, given the givens. Next time, next house?? Measure three times, buy ONCE.

Go back to the instructions, with the little pen and ink mess doodled on there, take a picture when you finish, and post..and return :!

    Ps:

Design is almost always first, the solution to a problem. No place to sit? What should that be? A wall blocking a view? What can we do? Something too big, too small, too ornate too plain. Too big , too large. Not enough color/ too much color. Fix the problem first.

This was simply a case of not identifying the problem.......and it began with a big guess, versus a plan. Get help, before you guess. Always.

Yes, rudeness prevails when the same comments could be made in a helpful NICE way. It's quite unbelievable, actually that anyone would hire some of these folks. But maybe they don't.

Or.. they do. So that they don't end with money down a drain, that can not be retrieved, and many times is money that no matter rich or richer , is not preferred to be totally WASTED.: )

The op wants a sectional. The room is not meant for a sectional. When you see a large opening in the yonder? Your eye screams to be able to reasonably get through...for it to BE open. Many rooms will take a sectional.....just as many will not. This one is a "not"

It must be nice to have so much money that one doesn't have to try to make what one has (whether a mistaken purchase or not) work. Shaming someone for making an error in a purchase is just downright wrong and mean spirited. But you know that.

As suggested by BeverlyFLADeziner above, you might be better off to put the TV on the wall where the pedestal sink was sitting temporarily. It's not ideal to have a traffic path across the TV but it might be a good trade-off, depending on the layout of the house and the traffic paths through the room.

As far as the cable connection being on the striped wall, that's not a problem at all.

Instead of connecting the cable to the TV, connect it to a transmitter. Get a transmitter with more than one input: one for the cable box signal and one or more for devices such as streaming boxes or Blu-ray players. Then, then hook up a receiver to the TV, to receive the transmitter's signals. Not complicated or expensive.

All she has to do to MAKE it work, is lose a corner , move a couple pieces of it. It doesn't cost any money : )

If it were my room I wouldn't mind a long sofa but I wouldn't like the armless section floating across from it mid-room. I would prefer a sectional both for watching TV and for conversation. So I'd go with Beverly's suggestion to move the TV to the other wall, and rotate the sectional into the room's corner. Also then the OP doesn't have to find someplace to store the unused corner section.
