replacement windows

We have a red cedar 3000 square foot home with 30* old Pella windows ( wood on inside and commercial brown aluminium clad on outside).
We are looking to replace all windows and doors to more energy efficient vinyl windows.
We are unsure what color to use for the interior of the windows. We painted some commercial brown and some white to help us visualize.
Our house is on a lake and we would like a modern cottage feel .
We will be changing the size of our windows to larger fixed ones in the middle. We are also renovating our kitchen area.
Any advice on the color of the interior windows would be greatly appreciated.

IMO vinyl windows will not look as good as what you have why not go aluminum clad again maybe in black and even black on the inside definately not white I think efficiency is always a good investment even if it is more for your comfort

Are the current windows single or double pane? Do you have an estimate already for the cost of the proposed vinyl windows?

Are the windows leaking (do you see water vapor between the panes) and do they frost over? Have you had an energy efficiency test done on your home (where the leaking heat shows up on infared?) I see your point about wanting some solid panes to maximize unbroken views, but you might just do that with the middle triple one and then install high-tech UV film on all others and the upper ones. If your windows are out of warranty, you won't negate that by putting film on them. Depends on whether you have heat/sun/fade issues or not. If your only motivation is to gain a better view, I don't think it is worth the trouble. I would assume in a location like this you'll be outside enjoying the view more than inside!

We have never had an energy rating test done, maybe something we should consider since we live in Northeastern Area of Ontario Canada. Our Pella windows are double paned glass which are not air tight and the glass can be removed between the panes. The other upper windows, the seal is broken on some and they steam up. Some windows leak and in general in the winter there is a draft coming from them.. Our newish garage doors are Commercial brown in colour, therefore we thought we should go with this colour on the exterior windows.

we have received a couple of estimates for vinyl windows however I'm torn on the interior window colour. Our other question is should we be going triple pane? Our house (on the lake side faces south and in the summer the house receives lots of heat and sunshine.

Get an energy audit before you do anything. Also, does your state/county/region/country do it free? If so, they might also have special deals on brands for homeowners in your area.

I would do triple panes on the ones that face north and south. Just doubles on the east and west. If you have trees on the west that shade your house that should work. If not, you might do triples there. You might want solar shades inside on the southern ones to prevent fading of your floors and furniture.

Consider fiberglass windows. More glass. Less frame. Inline is highly regarded and located in Ontario. Here. With your view I'd explore making the windows on that side fixed triple pane as large as possible. The money shot for enjoyment, future rental income or sales.

If the windows are experience seal failures, there isn't much worth keeping on a 20 year old Pella. If you are looking for an interior color, that is going to push you squarely in the direction of a hybrid (i.e. fiberglass exterior, wood interior) or fiberglass window with an interior laminate. There are several good options on that front being up in Canada.

For sure, check into rebates for Ontario home owners. Do a little research, it may

    save you a few thousand.

Dan1888 - just a follow up on my windows. We ended up going with fibreglass inline and replaced all our windows and doors in Commercial Browm frame - in and out. We LOVE them and the Company was great to work with. Thank you for your advice!.
