I think it is a big deal- not food safe means it contains materials, chemicals, resins, or colorants that are not safe to come into contact with food.

Would you stir your pot with a wooden spoon colored with toxic stains, paints or shellacs? Cut your food on cutting boards made with glue not meant to be in contact with food? Store your food in plastic containers that are not meant to store food?

Ok I thought it had more to do with not putting hot stuff on counter. This is helpful thank you! (And no, I would not to any of those things :))

NSF is needed if going into a commercial kitchen because it's certified (costs money to do so). If you went into a Restaurant supply store it's pretty much all NSF vs Walmart/about-any-residential-store items would not be.
