There are two common ways that we hide the cable box.

In the above case we install a 1 1/2" flexible PVC chase for the cabling and the electric that is behind the surface of where the stone is to be applied. The drywall to the side of the fireplace is cut so we can hide the cables in the wall and the cable box is usually a distance away from the fireplace. Of course you will need to patch and paint the drywall. But the finished result is beautiful.

The high tech type of customer will have the components in the basement and use an IR device that connects the TV to the components in the basement. The cables and electric still need to be installed first before the stone is applied. The little IR device is mounted on or near the TV and you use the remote to control the TV.

    I hope this information helps.

You could always go wireless. Or put box in another room. And it can run all your TV. AT&T offers it. Dish use one box for all TV we have 4, one outside. You dobt have to be tied to a cord.
