I’ll let others chime in but that’s not a philodendron but a monstera plant.

I thought they were just very similar but seems like Home Depot fooled me

Hey, sheisback is right, it does indeed look like a monstera deliciosa although without any fenestrations yet. The name is commonly used as they’re part of the same family but it’s a deliciosa :)

Have you added extra soil on top of the pot? They usually have one larger stem with smaller ones protruding rather than all being under soil?

Are the black stems soft and mushy? if so you either have root rot or rotting stems, too much water especially paired with the yellow leaves.

How far down do you allow the soil to dry before watering?

Does your pot have a drainage hole at the bottom?

Thank you so much for your response! I haven’t repotted or added soil or anything this is just how I bought it. ( I bought it around 2 weeks ago.) The black stems are soft and mushy!! I waited about a week to water it but I do think the bottom soil must be too wet. Also yes it has drainage holes. I’ll let it dry out now but other than that do u have any recommendations on how I should fix the root rot?

You would need to see the roots to see the extent of the damage, hopefully you can save it since the plant still looks healthy for the most part.

It may be more than one plant once you remove the soil and only the rotting plant would need to be removed, if it’s all one plant you need to remove the black stems with sharp, sterilised snippers or scissors as well as any black/brown mushy roots. If theres still healthy solid white roots left after pruning then it should recover.

You can then repot in a well draining mix or leave to dry a little. I’d sterilise the pot to be on the safe side and definitely change up the potting mixture so it doesn’t hold as much water.

If you leave it in the current soil it may just progress and get worse depending how wet it is and how bad the roots are.
