Cover AC?

last modified: 5 years ago

Hi -- My friend had a "through the wall" AC in his house that died last year and needed to be replaced. The guy he hired to do the work installed a regular window-style AC in its spot, and said there'd be no problem with it, and that he should just cover it with a regular plastic AC cover for the winter. I tried to do that for him, but the plastic cover he was given didn't fit well at all on the outside portion. I also covered the inside portion (as instructed, with a thin foam-type sheet). With those coverings in place, during winter there were times that there was clearly some condensation dripping on the inside at the bottom of the AC. :(

I figure there must be a better way to cover it, so I just tried to search on-line and am finding different opinions. Should it be covered for winter -- z5 NY -- and if so, what is the best way to cover it? both in and out!
