White stain on wooden kitchen island

I just bought a home and it has a wooden top island in the kitchen. We have been using it to dine on mostly everyday. Today I noticed a spot that I tried cleaning with dishwashing liquid and fine scrubber. After everything was done, it left a white stain. what did I do wrong?

You removed the finish with the scrubber.

Refinish the entire top unless you know exactly what the finish is and attempt a spot refinish.

You might try a cutting board conditioner, like the one by Boos Brothers.

Make sure you use something that is food safe. Usually wood counters aren't stained but conditioned with oil. I think that white stain will just disappear when you re-oil it.
