Yes, try that one. Any number of named forms would grow in sun there also - even the weeping lace leaf types have been produced commercially in open fields in your area - but the parental species tends to be more disease resistant than its hundreds of cultivars. Also if you find a source for seed raised stock of straight Acer palmatum that may be somewhat cheaper than grafted specimens of its variants. Especially if you start small.

Agree with the species - well adapted to full sun positions and gets to an appreciable size. 'Osakazuki' would work well also and will develop some stunning fall color.

I have tried dozens and the best ones for full sun here (really the only ones I think work without any burning) are 'Seriyu', 'Tobiosho' (both of which get pretty good-sized and give me reliable fall color and never burn at all), 'Sango Kaku', 'Red Dragon' and 'Wolff' (Emperor 1). The rest either got composted, given away or moved into the shade!

Except for the variegated forms or those with very yellow foliage (like the golden fullmoon), pretty much any Japanese maple will grow in full sun here without scorching as long as watering is properly addressed. And the Willamette Valley has a very similar climate to mine :-) And is also the primary wholesale growing area for these trees on the west coast, which as noted, tend to be lined out in full all day sun.
