Extwrior door with 2 sidelites

Hello:
We are looking to replace our steel front door entry system to help with drafts in winter and to update the appearance of our home while keeping the traditional colonial-style feel. Also I would like full glass sidelites with clear glass to brighten our foyer (our home faces north).

is there a fiberglass door manufacturer you’ve had good experience with?
what color and/or finish would you recommend? I will paste a picture of our home and the style I am considering.

perfectly nice door. I'd plan on painting it a nice color to contrast with the rest -- maybe a deep cranberry...

Agree with @houssaon. Nice door, but Craftsman style is not a good fit for your house.

ThermaTru makes a lot of door styles with side lights. The fiberglass ones can be painted any color.

That is a nice door, but agree with everyone-- You can go to Therma-tru website and "design your door" and then upload a picture of your home and place your designed door on it. It helps many people decide if the door and color really work with their individual home...

Again, your home is not Craftsman style, so that particular door does not suit your home. Here's a sample of what I think you need (without the fanlight.) For more light in the foyer, paint a light color and install 4000K LEDs in your foyer light fixture, then brighten the floor with a rug.

Here is a discussion with numerious on-going issues with Therma Tru doors. (I wrote several comments from our recent experience with a special order TT door.)

We ended up changing to a Bayer Built door. It is a midwest regional company (we are just outside of Minneapolis).

The door we bought from Bayer is a MUCH better door than the one that came from TT (even if the TT door had been made correctly).

Thanks Mary Elizabeth! I actually came across that thread when trying to decide on door manufacturer. Bayer Built looks like a great product but unfortunately they don’t have dealers in Illinois.

Not sure where you are in Illinois. There are dealers all over Wisconsin and one in Davenport, Iowa. You could probably get a lot of information by phone to compare with your local options.

We are really happy with our door. It is a direct set fiberglass (full view).

We are planning to use the same brand for a new front door with sidelights when we do new siding, as well.

When you get your lovely new door and sidelights, remove that upside-down shrub to the left of the door so the door can be seen and appreciated.
