I want to brighten up this dining room. Remove the blingy ceiling light and maybe just have the curtains hanging straight? Remove the top of the display cabinet & paint the doors white. Any better ideas?

A new chandelier hung much lower- that is dynamic & adds some real power to the room. New chairs, maybe warm white wood. More airy, less conference room. Paint walls- feels like they need some color. Remove window treatment, replace with simple drape/no valance. GL :)

I’ve just had the chairs covered so can’t change them again, for now. I was thinking of painting the walls a colour from the stone work? Not dark though. Centrepiece & a large rug sounds good. :)

What about BM Pale Oak for the walls? I agree with something pulling from the stones. Remove all the window treatment. Start fresh. I'd live with them empty for a while and then look for neutral linen drapes and perhaps roller shade/light wooden blinds if you need privacy. Then pull colors from the art work for perhaps a rug or other wall art. And definitely get a new light fixture. Either brass or matte black/ORB and light and airy.

While I like your drapes, I'm not a fan of that sloppy-drapes-dragging-the-floor fad and that look, coupled with the drapes being the only significant bright color in the room, makes the rest of the room "drab". Having to bunch them up below the window sill because of the radiator is also problematic.

Do you sew? You could cut the drapes off and hem them to a length just beneath the window sill above the radiator and then reuse what fabric you cut off to add the same color elsewhere in the room such as a runner for the table top and/or wrist rests for the chair arms https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000497486835.html and/or place mats and/or napkins that might be kept on the table in napkin rings.

You could reuse the tie backs to create a couple of ribbons/bows for around an attractive centerpiece for your table.

IMO the chandelier and the art do not work in that space at all.If you want that scottish stone house look then more traditional art . If you want brighter and more modern I guess my first question is , is tah and actual stone wall that is part of the house structure? IMO remove the top of the cabinet hang a nice larger piece of art above it . Reupholster the chairs with a more neutral fabric and for sure get rid of those drapes. I would leave the stone wall window bare and then just do drapes on the other window and if you want linen IMO a good choice. I like chandeliers that actually light the table not the ceiling and it needs to be hung lower the bottom of the fixture about 36" above the table is good. I agree that color of metal does nor work but a nice muted brass could. That tiny piece of art needs to be gone and the other is okay if you love it. I just looked again at that window and I would do roman shades since it is a bay window. so nice linen roman shades . I have to say I do not really love those chairs and to get them reupholstered probaly cost more than new ones. I would not do arm chairs and yes some sort of center piece would be nice on the table.

Yes the stone wall is part of the structure. I have the stonework all through the house, walls, staircase, fireplace’s & chimney walls. I have two pieces of the larger artwork so could hang them together. In this house we need huge items or things just disappear. xx

With the arms of those chairs bumping the apron on the table, no one can pull close enough for comfortable dining. Maybe you could sell them to a business, school or church for their conference room and recoup some of the investment you've made. They are the major issue here other than the very theatrical drapes and cornices. A rug 36-42" larger all around than the table will make a huge difference. Find one you love and then new dining chairs and drapes can be determined by the rug's colors.

Can we see the 4th wall? I see the stone wall the opposite and the wall with french doors but not the other wall...

BTW, the stone wall is so cool.

paint walls color from stone as you and others have suggested.

Definitely change chandelier and remove drapes.

If possible, I'd paint the hutch.

down the road, I'd get a new dining table/chairs.

I'm feeling candle chandy idea to go with the cool stone and warm the room....

    ideas...

The 4th wall is just cream with a panelled door leading into the kitchen. I’ve gone Gung-ho and torn the curtains & pelmets down today, and it’s looking better already. Paint next. Love hearing everyones ideas! 💕

Perhaps you just need a few more ideas to aid you with this particular design dilemma. Note the long flowing curtains, chandeliers, and center pieces.
