I'm in Orono, Minnesota, a western suburb of Minneapolis, in Zone 4b. The hosta do seem to be holding up longer than normal this year. My Waving Wuffles is completely gone, but even the Golden Tiara, Grand Tiara, Golden Scepter family are still hanging on. They're usually some of the first to crash. I wonder what's up.

Your hostas look amazing. They are big and healthy. That grouping looks great!

Looks beautiful. Yellow River is one I have fallen in love with this past summer. Like yours, still looks good this late in the season.

You must be having perfect weather. We had several frosty nights before it warmed up again, plus drought conditions all summer. Rain a few weeks ago then dry again until night before last. It all takes its toll. I did not water at all to be kind to my well at the expense of established plants. I did water freshly planted stuff.

We haven't had frost here yet, and I have been watering. When the hosta start bowing their little heads begging for water, I can't resist. The trees seem late in turning color this year too, although they are quite glorious right now and will be peaking in a couple of days. Another factor this year maybe - I really got control of the slugs this year (or maybe it was just a bad year for them). I treated the soil first thing in the spring and then again in June.

Loisfan how did you treat soil for slugs? Yellow River sure does look pristine. I think it was one of the first hostas I bought. I am considering applying wood mulch now and later in few weeks manure to get ahead on the spring chores but it might be a feeding ground for late emerging slugs. I do not want to wait for complete frost to start applying mulch though...

They look really really great!! I had to cut mine back because I don’t want to deal with it in the cold. I have a few still that are looking good and two blooming even! Amazing how fast they grew!!
